Mind Your Q's and X's: Deciphering Chinese Pronounciations
Have you noticed that the Chinese names that appear in our newspapers sometimes look impossible to pronounce? I?m talking about Q?s without a u, and X?s that are at the beginning of a word. Actually, they are not hard to pronounce at all. You just need to know the code. That is what you?ll learn in this class. After one short hour, you?ll be able to not only to read those names, but also to read Chinese guidebooks and maps, and you will have a solid foundation to go on to learn more Chinese. Jim Found was a teacher for 44 years, both in public and private schools, and for all ages from grade one through college, before retiring and coming to Loveland. His ongoing interest has been in developing simple ways to introduce complex subjects. After he studied Chinese, while working in Taiwan for 11 years, he began to introduce the language to others and this course is the result of constant refinement of his language teaching methods. No registration is required.
