Mar 2    International Women's Day 2015
International Women?s Day 2015: from victim to leader is a call-to-action to engage women and girls as leaders. Although women have often been portrayed as victims of war and conflict, not much has been given to their potential as leaders in post-conflict areas. Rwanda is a stunning example of how women have taken on leadership roles to rebuild the country and how future global efforts should follow this example by bringing women to the table. This completely free UNC community event will challenge participants to address gender disparities within our own community and examine parallels between global and local issues that require leadership and innovative thinking. Featuring the official UN exhibit on the Rwandan Genocide, numerous community organizations, a film screening, and an amazing genocide survivor turned community activist, International Women?s Day 2015 will inform, inspire, and unite.

Mar 11    The Cold War: From a cold Warrior's Perspective
Joe Bowden What was the Cold War? Who was/were our adversary/ adversaries? The weapons of the Cold War were nuclear weapons. Were there any accidents with the nuclear weapons? What was deterrence? What was deterrence from the bomber perspective? What was the Triad and why was it necessary? How did Submarines and Submarine Launched Ballistic Missiles (SLBMs) contribute to deterrence? How did Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) contribute to deterrence? What was the Titan II accident at Damascus, AR? What was ?alert?? When did it end and why? What did we accomplish on our Flying training missions? How would we go to war? All of my 20+ years in the US Air Force were spent in the Strategic Air Command (SAC) at the height of the Cold War. SAC?s motto was ?Peace is our profession.? I was a B-52 pilot and ?fought? the Cold War during my training missions and performing alert duty. While I did drop bombs in Southeast Asia, my primary focus was deterrence. The peace was kept through the treat of the use of nuclear weapons. Mar 17    World History on a Page
Have you ever felt that authors of history books seem to assume a background knowledge of history beyond what you have? Have you wanted to know how all the historical knowledge you have accumulated fits together? Jim has had both of these feelings, and has developed a chart that portrays the past 4000 years of global history on a single page. See the empires that Alexander the Great took over.  See how the Roman Empire changed into the countries we have today.  When you?re reading a history book, you can use the chart to see what else was happening in the world during that era that influenced the people in the book you are reading. Jim Found has pursued the ideal of a liberal arts education ever since he received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Valparaiso University in 1962.. He moved to Loveland to retire after 44 years of teaching at all levels from grade school to college, and has been putting his learning tools into formats that can be shared with others. This class will introduce one of those tools. No registration is required.

You are invited to our dinner workshop, Money 101. This is an educational workshop designed to help you with ideas to grow and protect your money for college funding, retirement planning, tax reduction or simple wealth accumulation - with money you never even knew you had! This class will introduce you to the 3 enemies you must overcome to create financial security. So you know what to expect, let me tell you three things that you will NEVER see at our class. 1. We NEVER have a sign-in sheet! We believe that our information is vital & valuable so we don't need to hunt you down, we like to work with volunteers. 2. We NEVER sell anything! We don't push any books, CD's, or self-help kits. 3. We NEVER pressure appointments! When it's time to get up and leave, you just leave. Bring your notepad, grab a bite to eat and listen to these fundamental principles of money. We look forward to seeing you there, and feel free to bring a friend, you are my guest! Seating is limited so please RSVP early for you and your friend(s). Since seating is limited and dinner is provided, it is imperative that if you RSVP yes that you do show up. If you RSVP yes and your plans change, please revise your RSVP so that someone else can have the opportunity to create their best financial 2014! Thanks for caring about your financial future and letting us be a part of it! Please note: This is a workshop/class - not a "traditional networking" event, although you will get to meet new people! :)
