The traditional process for hiring, in which candidates are screened for skills first and for "fit" last, is inefficient and ineffective. Decades of research suggests that person-environment fit predicts key outcomes for employees, such as job satisfaction and turnover. But "fit" is a complex phenomenon that is deceptively hard to gauge in an interview. What, then, are the alternatives, and how can you leverage them to improve your hires? Using humor, (voluntary) audience participation, examples from the front lines, and psychological science, this presentation will lay out actionable strategies for identifying applicants who fit your company and the positions for which you are hiring. Improve your outcomes by finding applicants who are satisfied, committed, and loyal-and who will also do the job well.
Attendees of this session will learn:
* Evidence on the effectiveness of hiring based on fit.
* Tangible benefits of recruiting and screening employees based on fit.
* Practical strategies and tools for engaging in fit-based hiring.
