Central American Maya Sites Subject of Program at Loveland Museum/Gallery
LOVELAND, CO Frequent Yucatan traveler Richard Grant will discuss and share photos of his month-long bus journey through Central America to five world-famous Maya archeological sites. La Ruta Maya #1: Southern Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras
La Ruta Maya # 1features the Maya sites Palenque, Yaxchilan, Bonampak, Copan & Tikal. Through photos and discussion, ancient jungle cities, pyramids, temple paintings and stone carvings will be revealed. Be transported by the descriptions and visit Maya villages, see toucans, parrots and macaws, and walk along cobblestone streets with old Spanish cathedrals and nearby volcanos.
Richard Grant has degrees in Cultural Anthropology and Mathematics and taught in public, private and alternative secondary schools for 27 years before retiring in 2005. He has traveled extensively in Central America, 20 times since 1991, with only carry-on luggage. Grant’s interest, hobby and passion are the people, history, culture and archaeology of Mesoamerica, the Maya of Central America and the Ancestral Puebloan Anasazi of the American Southwest. All the photos in the program were taken by Grant in the places he has traveled to and visited. He has lived in Fort Collins, Colorado, since 1980.
