Katelyn Michelle Brand was born at North Colorado Medical Center on July 16th 2006. When Katelyn was 8 months old she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma stage 2 on her spine. This type of cancer usually starts in the central nervous system such as the spine.

Katelyn had surgery to cure the disease, it went very well. Katelyn was 1 year, 8 months when her test came up positive. Tests showed her cancer had spread, not only at the original spot but also in the lungs, hips, legs, and bone marrow. Katelyn immediately started chemotherapy.
