OLD-FASHIONED POLITICAL RALLY
The Loveland Chamber of Commerce is proud to have been a co-sponsor of the Old-Fashioned Political Rally since the late 1970's, together with the Loveland Reporter-Herald and the League of Women Voters of Larimer County.
All three organizations belleve strongly in having a politically aware and well-informed public, and this Rally is the best opportunity to fill this need available in our area. In fact, the OFPR is unique in Colorado: it invites all candidates on the ballot in Loveland, Fort Collins, Berthoud and Windsor to meet the voters in a single location. This year it will be held at the North Exhibition Hall at The Ranch (Larimer County fairgrounds) on Thursday, October 11th from 5:30PM to around 9:00PM.
The candidates will each speak for 3-5 minutes in an auditorium area and spend the rest of the evening in their booths, where you can talk with them one-on-one. You can find out their positions on the issues of greatest importance to you and share your concerns with them.
38 candidates from four political parties, running for county, state and national positions, have been invited. This year, the Rally will include Windsor-area candidates for the first time, so candidates for both the 2nd and 4th Congressional District have been invited. In addition, there will be booths for proponents/opponents of the major state and local ballot issues--a rare opportunity to hear them iall n one place!
If you wonder what districts you are in now that the boundaries have changed, you can find out at the Voter Information booth, which will have useful maps on display. You can also pick up a sample ballot, register to vote, and get one of the League of Women Voters useful ballot issue pamphlets, explaining the state ballot issues in easy to understand language, including the arguments for and against each one.
Bring your family! This is a colorful event with balloons, banners, flags and lots of activity. Reasonably priced food will be available for purchase starting at 5:00PM--and coffee, popcorn and lemonade will be free! There are no parking or admission charges.
Check the websites of the sponsoring organizations in early October to get the candidate speaking schedule. (www.LWV-LarimerCounty.org, www.Loveland.org, www.reporterherald.com)
[The candidate speeches will be available after the Rally on all three of these websites, as well as on the Loveland and Fort Collins city channels--and possible through the public libraries as well]
