Prior to their highly successful musical "Mamma Mia," ABBA composers Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus created this riveting, rock-inspired phenomenon. Set during the Cold War intrigue of an international chess tournament, the musical dramatizes the romantic checkmate between an American chess champion, his lover, and a Russian opponent secretly planning to defect to the West. Emotion intensity transcends the stage in a passionate and triumphant pop score, with each song more irrestisible than the last.
