Loveland Lights 2009
The Friends of the Loveland Library will once again present this popular event at the library on Dec. 5 & 6 during regular library hours. On display visitors will find snow village and pewter ornament collections, a model railroad, antique holiday cards and Christmas ornaments from many nations. Children will be able to make a gingerbread house (1 pm and 3 pm on Saturday and 1:30 pm on Sunday). The Polar Express story will be read in tandem with a craft session. Children will be challenged to find the bells hidden in the library. Guests will learn about holiday traditions, including Chanukah, plus customs and costumes from Ecuador and Argentina. A variety of musicians and dancers will perform. A special “how-to” for adults will help participants create unique party foods for their annual holiday party. Wood carvers will demonstrate their skills. Trees decorated by the Loveland Garden Club, Friends of the Library, Boys & Girls Club, and Loveland Youth Gardeners will feature unique decorations. Available for sale will be an array of holiday baked goods, Winter Holiday Council pewter ornaments, holiday books, and hand-made ornaments. A mitten tree will welcome gifts of new mittens to be given to a local charity.
A special feature will be Gingerbread Houses created by community leaders and artists. Visitors will be asked to cast their votes for the best creation. The lavishly decorated gingerbread structures will be sold as holiday decorative pieces in a silent auction which will benefit the Friends’ capital campaign to raise funds to expand and renovate the library.
