November Monthly Nonprofit Workshop
Tuesday, November 26, 2013
Location: The Ranch, Thomas McKee Building, 5280 Arena Circle, Loveland
Speaker: Sarah Hidey, JVA Consulting
Title: Introduction to Social Enterprise
Description: Is there a way to use business methods to accomplish a social mission? Is it “OK” for nonprofits to make a “profit”? Is there such a thing as a double (or triple!) bottom line? This training will be an introduction to the world of social enterprise –it will answer “what is social enterprise” as well as provide tools and resources that nonprofits and individuals can use when starting a social enterprise. Participants will receive a high-level overview about the process of planning for a social enterprise and what needs to be considered—including market research, financing, business planning, determining an appropriate business “model”, measuring social impact and more. Participants will also learn about real-life examples of how social entrepreneurs and innovative nonprofits are using social enterprise strategies to help alleviate poverty, provide job training and protect the environment around the world. Training will include trends in social enterprise financing and impact investing.
